The story is a remake of a movie from the Hindi movie ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon as Abhimanyu and Tara respectively, who are best friends from childhood. They experience marital bliss as the main characters in the story. In a twist of fate, Tara gets stuck in an unwanted marriage with a much older man who is not even related to her family. The story revolves around their life after this unfortunate turn of events and how they come together to fight for their love. The film is directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film is based on the Hindi movie 'Tutak Tutak Tutiya'. A sequel has been announced with Varun Dhawan reprising his role as Abhimanyu. On 26 July 2015, it was announced that Akshay Kumar would play a key role in "Tutak Tutak Tutiya". It was later revealed that Shatrughan Sinha would play the antagonist of this movie. On 12 September 2015, it was confirmed that Kriti Sanon will play the lead actress role. On 8 January 2016, it was confirmed that Varun Dhawan would be playing Abhimanyu in this movie. The film started production in March 2016 and was shot in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The first look of the movie was released on 31 March 2016. A second poster of the movie too was released on 5 May 2016, which also marked Varun Dhawan's birthday. The music for the film is composed by Vishal-Shekhar and Rajat Nagpal while the lyrics are written by Kumaar and Kausar Munir. Music rights are acquired by T-Series. The film's satellite rights were sold for through a bidding process, which was opened on 8 September 2015, starting from Rs. 10 crore. The film released on 2 April 2016, which was around 7 months after its release in the US. It released on 600 screens all over India. In North America, it is shown in over 1,200 theatres. Sachin-Jigar said that "It is a true story and we have stayed true to the story," while Aditya Chopra described the movie as a "moving love story. We want to make sure that it is not like a PG or PG-13 film, but it is an adult film". “It Is a very special love story,” he added. The film received mixed reviews from critics. "The Hindu" gave the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars stating, ""Tutak Tutak Tutiya" has its heart in the right place and its comedy quotient is top notch."
